Brittany (Majewski) Zahora

Student Services Manager

Brittany Zahora, formally known as Brittany Majewski is back and will be Tribeca Flashpoint College's Student Services Manager! Her education background and professional experience have prepared her for this exciting role. She obtained a Master's in Social Work from Aurora University and has worked in the education industry for four years in a variety of different positions, one of which was working for TFC’s admissions team for almost two years. This experience gave her a strong sense of devotion for higher education and for working with students to see them succeed in their own educational journey. For over the past year, Brittany was working for an educational consulting company where she was able to design, implement and maintain retention efforts for students. Brittany is a native Chicagoan and enjoys working for a college in the heart of the city. When she isn't working with students she spends her free time running outdoors, drinking coffee and eating at the best brunch spots in Chicago.

STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

We reached out to faculty and staff to recommend students who set a good example for their peers here at TFC. This month, Kris Franzen and Ryan Guida (both in Recording Arts) have been chosen, as they have been selected to accompany Career Services to attend SXSW is Austin, TX this month. Go Kris and Ryan!

The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conferences & Festivals offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW® is the premier destination for discovery.

Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, music showcases and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning, business activity thrives at the Trade Shows and global networking opportunities abound. Intellectual and creative intermingling among industry leaders continues to spark new ideas and carve the path for the future of each ever-evolving field, long after the events’ conclusion.

We wanted to highlight both Kris and Ryan, as this is definitely quite a recognition. Not only will attending SXSW contribute to their networking skills and provide them with great exposure to their industry; it will also provide them with a bit of fun and distraction in the warm Texas weather.

We'll make sure to organize a casual workshop once Kris and Ryan return from SXSW so they can share their experience with students and faculty.

Congratulations, well deserved guys!

ALUMNI HIGHLIGHTS

Elizabeth Boyd

Animation & VFX

Elizabeth is currently a Creative Intern at Michael Coleman, LLC. We asked Elizabeth a few questions and here's what she had to say!

What do you like most about working at Michael Coleman, LLC?

I get to do more than just editing and I'm continuing to learn outside of what I do specifically.

What piece of advice do you have for TFC candidates currently job searching?

Don't let any opportunity pass you by without at least making every attempt to make it work. So that way, even if it doesn't, you won't be left with any 'what-ifs'.

CAMPUS & CLASS EVENTS

FRIENDS AND FAMILY NIGHT

Despite the weather, we still had 49 guests attend! The number is a combination of current students, parents, and friends. All things considered, it was a successful event. We had lots of smiling faces from parents. Thank you to all the faculty, who helped make this event possible. You truly are the heart and soul of this institution.

2016 INTERNSHIP FAIR

There were 14 companies on campus on Tuesday, February 23rd. Though we did have a few last minute cancellations, the students still seemed in high spirits and employers who did participate, were a joy to work with. We received fantastic feedback from companies, including Hallmark, who flew in from Kansas City. Michael Ong, their Video Lead, has been participating in Tribeca Flashpoint's Job Fairs from the very beginning, and he said this was his favorite event yet! He said hosting the fair on campus, truly captured the spirit of the school.

GROUPON TOUR

On Friday, February 19, Career Services took the First Year Experience (FYE) class for a tour of the Groupon offices here in Chicago. Students had great questions and certainly made a great impression on our Groupon hosts John, Temi and Jill! Groupon was so excited to have TFC students visit and so impressed with their genuine interest, that they have accepted our invitation to take part in this year's Career Services Week!

Both Jill Hinrichs, Instructional Designer and Temi Famodu, Recruiting Coordinator at Groupon, will offer a workshop to TFC students and alumni on the topic of Personal Branding. They will also go over qualities Groupon looks for in potential candidates to better assist TFC candidates with their job search efforts.
