“I discovered my potential for counseling at the age of thirteen, when my peers in eighth grade all agreed that I should one day go into the counseling field. It was an exercise our teacher had our class participate in. Each student stood and the class of peers since Kindergarten raised their hands stating what that person could be when they “grew up” and why. I am forever thankful for that moment in time as it helped me to explore a field of learning, interest, personal growth and ignited a passion to help and empower others.”

Lydia C. Richardson, Psy.D.

TFC Counselor

Lydia C. Richardson, Psy.D. originally hails from New York City but has called Chicago home for the last 19 years.  She is the proud mother of three college-age children and has been working with young people and their families for many years.  Lydia started her career working on Wall Street and in banking, but returned to school to study psychology and follow her dream of more meaningful work.  She has trained extensively with children, adolescents, and adults and particularly enjoys neuropsychological testing and assessment.  She has worked in various settings, including a hospital outpatient clinic, DCFS foster community, community mental health clinics, and most recently, at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center where she oversaw the mental health services for youth on her unit.

Lydia believes that life is a series of moments, and hopes that she can help her clients through some of their difficult “moments,” strengthen their resilience, and guide them along their chosen path.  She feels very privileged and excited to be able to work with the young people at Tribeca Flashpoint College.  In her spare time, you can find Lydia cycling along the lakefront, salsa dancing, cooking, reading, or hanging out with her kids. Come by the counseling office and ask her how it is that she speaks both Spanish and Danish!
